WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Tom Udall, D-N.M., and Marco Rubio, R-FL., introduced a bill that would give Hispanic-serving colleges and universities increased access to a grant program designed to encourage more students to pursue historic and cultural preservation. The program is similar to one already available to historically black colleges and universities, tribal colleges, and nontribal colleges with a high enrollment of Native Americans or Native Hawaiians.

FBI Offering $1,500 for Information on Murder

The FBI is offering a $1,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Roland A. Cantsee.

The body of Cantsee, 45, of Shiprock was found Nov. 27, 2011, in a field approximately eight miles north of the Flowing Water Navajo Casino, in Hogback, N.M. on the Navajo Indian reservation.

The cause of death was determined to be blunt impact trauma to the head. Cantsee had been reported missing by a relative Nov. 26, 2011, after not being seen since Nov. 11, 2011.

Agriculture Secretary Announces Electric System Funding

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced Friday more than $1.8 billion in funding for electric utility infrastructure projects in 25 states and one territory to improve service for more than 37,000 rural customers. 

The projects include more than $45 million for smart grid technology, $73 million for renewable energy projects and over $213 million targeted to benefit Native Americans. This funding will build or improve more than 6,500 miles of line to deliver electricity to rural America.
