Grants Man Arrested for Posting Threats on Internet

FBI News:

This morning the FBI arrested Paulo Nikko Peral, 20, of Grants, New Mexico, on a criminal complaint charging him with transmitting a threat to injure another in interstate commerce, in violation of 18 U.S.C. 875(c.)

Paulo’s arrest was announced by U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales and Carol K.O. Lee, Special Agent in Charge of the Albuquerque Division of the FBI.

Peral made his initial appearance in federal court this afternoon. He remains in federal custody pending a preliminary hearing and a detention hearing, which are scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Luján Amendment Passes to Study Broader National Labs Mission

Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District voted in support of the Conference Report on the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 Thursday, which includes an amendment he offered that calls for a study to broaden the mission of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) national laboratories.

I-25 SB Lanes at Old Pecos Trail Closed Saturday Morning

The New Mexico Department of Transportation will be closing I-25 southbound lanes at Old Pecos Trail in Santa Fe early Saturday morning, Dec. 22.

The lanes will be closed at 3 a.m. to allow workers to erect a large overhead sign structure at the St. Francis Drive interchange and by 5 a.m. should be re-opened.
 

During the closure, southbound I-25 traffic will be detoured onto Rabbit Road and then directed back to the Interstate at St. Francis Drive.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Jeff Bingaman and Tom Udall today asked the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to provide New Mexicans with immediate assurances that their travel plans early in the new year will not be disrupted by a federal law governing drivers’ licenses.

House Speaker Ben Lujan Has Died

Ben Lujan

House Speaker Ben Lujan, 77, passed away Tuesday evening with his wife Carmen and children, including U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Lujan at his side.

Lujan had been battling lung cancer and announced during the 2012 Legislative Session that he would not seek re-election as Speaker of the New Mexico House of Representatives.

He had served as House Speaker since 1975.

Lujan lived in Santa Fe and represented District 46 in Santa Fe County.

Bandelier Releases Holiday Schedule

With the new snow, and holidays coming up, the rangers at Bandelier are hoping people will come and enjoy the park.
