Catch Of The Week: State Of Nevada Cyber Attack

In the latest cyber attack, the State of Nevada has been crippled by an unknown attacker. The attack was first reported by the office of the Governor on August 24, and some websites and services remain down at the time of this article, though emergency services are still available.

This is unsurprising to me, since most emergency services are contracted through a third-party vendor, meaning an attack on the state would leave them unaffected.

Public Comment Opens For New Mexico’s Largest Broadband Program, BEAD Funding

ALBUQUERQUE — New Mexicans are invited to weigh in on a broadband proposal that will determine how hundreds of millions of dollars in federal grants are used to expand high-speed internet statewide.

The public is invited to comment on the Office of Broadband Access and Expansion’s (OBAE) Final Proposal to award grants through the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program. New Mexico State Police Uses License Plate Readers To Locate Missing Juvenile And Arrest Her Abductor

LUNA COUNTY — On Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, New Mexico State Police (NMSP) officers located a kidnapped teenager and arrested her suspected abductor.

At about 7:46 p.m., license plate readers (LPRs) alerted officers to a Volkswagen sedan traveling westbound on Interstate 10. The LPR hit indicated the vehicle was connected to the disappearance of a 15-year-old girl from Texas.

Local Internet & Cell Service Back Up And Running

From Los Alamos County:

Los Alamos County internet and phone systems are back up and running, although some cell phone service still appears to be spotty.

The service disruption began at approximately 6:30 p.m. today. The County is unaware of the cause of the service outage at this time.

Speed cameras are about as popular as chopped liver on a grade school cafeteria menu, just one of many modern inconveniences keeping us “safe”. In an interesting turn of events, speed cameras were one of several affected services in a cyber attack in the Netherlands.
