Coronado Historic Site To Host Plein Air Sketching Classes

NMDCA News:

Artists are invited to test their skills in an outdoor en plein air sketching workshop held at Coronado Historic Site in Bernalillo. Taught by local artist Mary Beth Woiccak, each 90-minute session will have a different subject for participants to draw. Students will receive a small sketch pad, drawing pencil, and kneaded eraser to use and take home.

  • 9:30–11 a.m., Saturday, June 27: Learn how to draw the site’s historic structures.

‘Ode To The Mother Road’ Opens June 19 In Step Up Gallery

ART News:

Route 66, also known as the Mother Road, is 100 years old this year! Step Up Gallery at Mesa Public Library invited regional artists to create art to celebrate the centennial.

Artists responded to the call with over 60 art pieces. The art on display will include plein air paintings of scenes along what is now known as Historic Route 66, studio paintings imagining the past, and fabric quilts designed to honor the Mother Road.

Community Lends A Hand In Creating Justice Center Mural

Austin-based artist J Muzacz works on a completed tile piece during a workshop Friday afternoon at Mesa Public Library. This tile will become part of a mosaic mural on the exterior wall of the Justice Center. Muzacz and his team guided community members through the process of creating the tile pieces using their templates. Each participant received a grid to put the glass tiles on and a template to follow regarding where to put the tiles and what colors to use.
