Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) announced April 21 that the physical May 2 Arts and Crafts Fair was cancelled due to the restrictions by the New Mexico Governors Office.

To support vendors who would appear in the fair, and to continue to provide a shopping experience for the Los Alamos Community, LAAC created a Virtual Craft Fair.

LAAC Cancels Upcoming Events Due To Social Distancing

LAAC News:

Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) has made the difficult decision to cancel several of their events due to Social Distancing, required by the State of New Mexico.

 

For the safety of patrons and visitors, LAAC has determined that the following events will be canceled, with alternatives when possible, even if the restrictions are eased or lifted before the event date.

Community Invited To Participate In COVID-19 Poster Contest

Los Alamos Museum of Art (LAMOA) and The Los Alamos Historical Society are sponsoring a COVID-19 Poster Contest.

The first-place winner will earn $300, second place will receive $150 and the third-place winner will earn $100.

There also will be a kids’ category for ages 5-14. They will have a chance to win $50.

Los Alamos and White Rock artists are invited to get creative with their digital and traditional media. Winning images will be made into posters for display in the local community.

Selected works will be used as part of each museum’s online gallery.

Nurse Karen Williams Shares Experiences Through Poem

Staff Report

Ultrarunner Karen Williams was attacked by a black bear June 18, 2016 while competing in the annual Valles Caldera Runs as she ran up over a hill and came between a mother bear and her cubs (Link).

She is a nurse and because of her training she recently started taking shifts in the ICU at Los Alamos Medical Center. She also had the opportunity to work in the isolation area.

Williams shared her experiences in ICU and isolation with her nephew John Williams of Missouri. She asked him to put her experiences into a poem, which she would like to share with the community:
