County Addresses Summer Concert Series Comments On New Vendor Selection

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County officials responded today to comments from the public questioning possible award of the contract for the popular Summer Concert Series to a new vendor.

Last year, the concerts were produced under a contract with Gordon’s Concerts LLC operated by Abe Gordon and Kara Robertson. However, as in all previous years, the County released a competitive-bid Request For Proposal (RFP) to call for interested, qualified vendors to produce the Summer Concert Series. Ponyo (2008, rated G, 1 hr., 41 min.), written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, will be shown Feb. 7 at Mesa Public Library.

This was Miyazaki’s 10th animated film, and it won several Japanese film awards. Miyazaki himself drew part of the animation.

So many people turned out Thursday, Jan. 24 for the Backcountry Film Festival sponsored by Century Bank and brought to Los Alamos by the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) and Reel Deal Theater that theater owner Jim O’Donnell opened a second screening room to accommodate everyone. NHCC Art Museum Closed For Renovation

ALBUQUERQUE The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) Art Museum is getting a new entrance during the month of February.
 
In order to maintain safety and protect the artwork, the museum is now closed through Feb. 25.
 
The Art Museum will reopen in time for the opening reception for its upcoming exhibition, Que Chola!, which will take place from 6-9 p.m., Friday, March 8. The last few years have seen a surge in interest in the Chola as a figure and this exhibition will explore this dynamic from a feminist perspective through art and popular culture.
