This iconic turquoise necklace by Zuni jeweler Leekya Deyuse and originally owned by Millicent Rogers has just returned to the Millicent Rogers Museum after being on loan to the Albuquerque Museum for a special exhibit on jewelry from New Mexico.
 
The necklace is made of 294 tabs of Cerrillos and Blue Gem mined turquoise, weighs 4.5 lbs., and is the most iconic of all pieces of Southwest jewelery owned by the Millicent Rogers Museum

Sangre De Cristo Chorale Concert Saturday, Sunday

The Sangre de Cristo Chorale will present its fall concert, How Can I Keep from Singing? Performances are 4 p.m. Saturday in St. John’s United Methodist Church in Santa Fe and 4 p.m. Sunday at the United Church of Los Alamos.
Composers are often inspired to honor and elevate folk songs and other “music of the people” into fancy art music. Included in Sangre de Cristo Chorale’s October concerts will be works by Bela Bartòk, Johannes Brahms, Aaron Copland, Alice Parker, Gwyneth Walker, Mack Wilberg, and others.

Martinez of Los Alamos’ Detonation Science and Technology group takes to paper, beautifully crafting a bleached skull with a headdress inspired by the American Plains Indians. Los Alamos Ski Club Hosts 75th Anniversary Celebration Weekend: Oct. 26-28

In 1943 a group of Manhattan Project scientists began the Los Alamos Ski Club, the mission was to bring together others that were interested in skiing as a recreational sport.

Later they expanded the Club and interest in skiing by working together to put in a rope tow to create a local ski area at Sawyers Hill. By the 50s the Club moved the ski area to Pajarito Mountain and continued its tradition of utilizing volunteers to bring an incredible skiing experience to the Los Alamos community.
