The ducks’ vocabulary is limited, but so is my human ability to distinguish the nuances in their conversation. I can distinguish their abrupt protest when Bobbi Goose insists with a silent beak that they leave off swimming in “her” stock tank. The White Rock Artist Market will feature local artists and crafters 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 5, at the White Rock Visitor Center.

Funds Help Make College Education More Affordable

Gov. Susana Martinez announced the awarding of $750,000 in scholarship funds to New Mexico higher education institutions to help make college education more affordable for New Mexicans.

These scholarships will be given to students in awards of up $1,000. The funding will also be expanded to include fees, books and supplies. The funding, which will be available for Fiscal Year 2015, is a $250,000 increase from funding levels in past years.

New Mexico One of Five States Receiving $1.7 Million in FEMA Fire Preparedness Grants

FEMA News:

Fire departments in five states, including New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas have been awarded more than $1.69 million in preparedness grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

In New Mexico, the grant totals $84,093 and covers the cost of firefighting equipment and wellness and fitness equipment for the City of Alamogordo Fire Department.

Complex DOE Contract for Pantex; Y-12 Completed

The National Nuclear Security Administration Production Office and Consolidated Nuclear Security have completed one of the largest and most complex contract transitions in the history of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

FBI Seeks Public’s Help Solving String of Albuquerque Bank Robberies

The FBI and local law enforcement authorities are asking for the public’s help in solving six bank robberies that occurred in the Albuquerque area in June.

4th of July Schedule of Events at Overlook Park

COMMUNITY News:

The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos has announced the schedule of events for the 4th of July Celebration and Fireworks Show at Overlook Park in White Rock.

The day’s events will commence at 2 p.m. Friday with music, bouncy toys, skydiving and more. Atomic City Transit will provide free transportation to the park.
