It’s Los Alamos County Fair weekend and I’d like to tell you about the Summer Concert Series’ participation.

On Friday night, Aug.10, we’re gonna do a show of country-soul music at Ashley Pond. This means excellent country music played with soul. Sound strange? Not at all.

NMFA Arrests Shouldn’t Impact Los Alamos

Two top officials from the New Mexico Finance Authority have been arrested for state securities violations related to a fake financial audit.
 
Chief Operating Officer John T. Duff of the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department’s Securities Division and former controller Greg Michael Campbell were booked at 9:08 a.m. today into the Santa Fe County Jail.

Minor Injuries Reported in Morning Bicycle Accident

Staff report

Minor injuries were reported in an accident at about 8 a.m. today near Diamond Drive and Sandia Street.

A bicyclist was riding south on Diamond Drive when a motorist heading northbound on Diamond Drive turned left on to Sandia Street and failed to yield the right of way to the bicyclist.

The Los Alamos Fire Department treated the bicyclist for minor injuries at the scene. The Bicyclist declined transport to Los Alamos Medical Center.

Katy Korkos Gets Pierced

Throwing caution to the wind, Member Services Coordinator Katy Korkos of the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce surprised one of her business members Monday as she entered their business and asked to be pierced. Korkos hadn’t had her ears pierced as a child but after receiving a pair of MJ Oref designed earrings Monday, made the decision to get it done. She headed straight to Bennett’s Fine Jewelry, 107 Central Park Square. Community Invited to Submit Letters of Interest for Council Vacancy

Los Alamos County Council Chair Sharon Stover announced during Tuesday night’s Council meeting that beginning today, Council will accept letters of interest from community members who would like to be considered to fill the unexpired term of Councilor Ron Selvage, who resigned last week.

His term will expire Dec. 31, 2014.

Applicants must be a registered voter and resident of Los Alamos County, and cannot be employed by the County.

They should submit a letter of interest explaining their background, experience and why they are interested in the position.

Council Approves Removal of Old Unpaid Utility Bills

Outgoing Deputy Manager of Finance and Administration Janet Bettinger looks on as Incoming Deputy Manager of Finance and Administration Bob Westervelt made the case as to why it’s bad for business to carry unpaid utility bills on the Department of Public Utilities accounts receivable ledger beyond five years.
