This is the second — somewhat delayed column on Medicaid. This column discusses Medicaid’s future in New Mexico.

The June 28 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) decision by the Supreme Court makes the Medicaid issue even more timely and important.

Column: Bad Management Theories Lead to Bad Organizational Practices

When I was in graduate school, I often had disquiet feelings about certain theories, especially the ones based in economics, with neat and elegant equations, or models constructed with impeccable rationality.

YMCA Gym Divider Helps to Double Space

Longtime Los Alamos resident Paul R. Guthals passed away Saturday morning.

A Funeral Mass for Guthals will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

A reception will follow the Mass at Karen McLaughlin Parish Hall, adjacent to the church.

Lunch with a Leader to Feature Local Police Chief

Los Alamos Chief of Police Wayne Torpy will be the speaker at the upcoming League of Women Voters monthly Lunch with a Leader meeting.

 

The public is invited to attend Torpy’s talk, set for 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9 at the Pajarito Environmental Education Center, 3540 Orange St. (small building across from the back of the high school.)

Torpy was hired as police chief in Los Alamos in 2005. He serves on the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board and the boards of the Family YMCA and Leadership Los Alamos.

FBI Seeks Identity of Woman Found Dead in Shiprock

FBI News:

The FBI and Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying an adult female whose body was found in an irrigation canal in the Paradise area of northern Shiprock in New Mexico.

The body was discovered at approximately 8 a.m. Sunday, July 22.

The woman is believed to have been Native American, approximately 25 to 40 years old. She was about 5’3” to 5’6” tall and weighed approximately 150 to 170 pounds.

She was wearing a yellow T-shirt, blue denim shorts, and Nike running shoes. Her hair was braided.
