A Shift in Small Business Lending Choices?

A recent Pepperdine University study indicates that small business owners are once again viewing bank loans, not business credit cards, as their first option for obtaining financing.

Based on a survey with responses from 6,000 business owners, 68 percent of those seeking financing in the next six months reported that they will pursue bank loans.

Teachers Union Delegates at National Convention Nix High Stakes Testing

DETROIT — The American Federation of Teachers 2012 National Convention in Detroit drew more than 3,000 delegates from across the country.

The delegates represented 1.5 million members including preK-12 teachers; paraprofessionals and school-related personnel; higher education faculty and professional staff; early childhood educators; federal, state and local government employees; and nurses and other healthcare professionals.

Hill Diner Burglarized Overnight!

The restaurant is open for business now but when employees arrived to work this morning at the Hill Diner, they discovered in short order that something was wrong. A window had been pushed in and the cash register was “trashed.”

“We don’t keep any cash in the restaurant,” owner Denise Lane said.

Back to School Tax Free Weekend Starts Friday

It is that time of year again for the New Mexico Annual Tax Holiday.

This year it starts at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 3, and goes through Aug. 5 at midnight.

This is a great time to purchase school supplies and clothing without paying tax.

The New Mexico Legislature established a deduction from gross receipts tax for retail sales of tangible personal property in 2005 and has continued it each year the first weekend in August.

This is possible because the retailers can deduct the gross receipts tax during this period and therefore can pass the savings onto you for a weekend of tax-free shopping. Read More
