Effective this evening, the Los Alamos Fire Department will be posting signs and taping off fire rings and grills in locations throughout Los Alamos County.

Some locations in specific parks that are yet to be determined may remain open due to the location of such device in relation to safety distances from combustible and flammable material.

The Leadership Los Alamos organization is taking the year off to update its program.

‘Get Green’ Poster Competition Winners Announced

In the “Get Green” poster competition, grade school students in Los Alamos County showed off their artistic ability and understanding of sustainability. 

The resulting entries provide insight into why preserving our environment is so important, and what actions we can all take to help create a more sustainable community.

Aerial Survey of Los Alamos Townsite Begins Monday

NNSA News:

The National Nuclear Security Administration plans this week to complete a high-fidelity aerial survey of Los Alamos town site, a dual-step project initiated last fall.

The survey is scheduled for June 11-13. Residents may notice the silver and blue Bell 412 helicopter flying overhead.

NNSA arranged for the Remote Sensing Laboratory/National Aerial Measuring System (RSL) of Las Vegas, Nev., to conduct this second flyover following a similar survey of lab property in August 2011, after the Las Conchas Fire.
