New Mexico Courts Improving Pretrial Justice

SANTA FE — Pretrial justice improvements are underway to provide better information to judges for release and detention decisions about people charged with a crime and to expand the capability of courts to monitor defendants released pending trial.

Sen. Martin Heinrich recently introduced a bill in Congress to re-designate Bandelier National Monument as national park.

It is hard to see how this bill benefits either the public or Bandelier.

On its face, this may sound like a bill to give Bandelier more protection, but if this bill passes, I believe it will damage Bandelier’s land and cultural features and diminish the authority of Bandelier’s National Park Service managers.

TAOS, NM Dec. 11, 2019, the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) signed an agreement with the U.S. Forest Service in Taos to provide a career pathway program for participants in the Rocky Mountain Youth Corps (RMYC).
RMYC is an AmeriCorps program where participants gain valuable experience in the skills that employers, like the U.S. Forest Service, need by maintaining public lands.
