SAN FRANCISCO — At a keynote address today during the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting in San Francisco, Dr. Peter H. Letter To The Editor: ‘Shared Traffic Lanes’

The County is experimenting with shared traffic lanes. The idea is straightforward, mark the lanes so that bicycles and cars have the same rights.
 
These lanes are now in place from Oppenheimer to 15th Street on Central Avenue. Imagine a bicycle coming east on Canyon in a bicycle lane then on to Central.
 
At Oppenheimer the cyclist enters a shared lane, there is no bicycle lane. Both the east bound and west bound lanes are shared, doubled yellow lines so that vehicles cannot cross into the oncoming lane.

IRS Early Interaction Initiative – Helping Employers Stay Current With Payroll Taxes

PHOENIX  The Internal Revenue Service has launched a new initiative designed to more quickly identify employers who are falling behind on their payroll or employment taxes and then help them get caught up on their payment and reporting responsibilities.
 
The effort is called the Early Interaction Initiative. The initiative is designed to help employers stay in compliance and avoid needless interest and penalty charges.
 
The initiative will seek to identify employers who appear to be falling behind on their tax payments even before an employment tax return
