Prescribed Burns On Santa Fe National’s Forest Jemez And Cuba Ranger Districts During December

SANTA FE ― Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct three pile burns on the Jemez and Cuba Ranger Districts sometime between Nov. 30 and Dec. 30. 
 
That window is dependent on the amount of snowfall on the ground as well as other favorable conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, and may be extended into 2016.  
 
Once ignitions begin, they are expected to last two to three days.
 
The planned prescribed burns will treat:
  • 486 acres in Joaquin Canyon eight miles

New Mexico Ranks 35th On Tax Competitiveness

WASHINGTON, D.C. — New Mexico has the 35th most competitive tax code in the nation according to the 12th annual edition of the State Business Tax Climate Index released by the nonpartisan Tax Foundation.

Martinez Announces $1 Million Expansion Of CYFD’s Family Support Worker Program

LOS LUNAS — Gov. Susana Martinez has announced a $1 million expansion of the Children, Youth, and Families Department (CYFD) Family Support Worker program, which she initiated as a pilot program in Bernalillo County in April of 2014.
 
The program will now serve six New Mexico counties and provides specifically high-risk families with service and support aimed at preventing child maltreatment.

Heinrich Urges President To Work With Bipartisan Group To Protect Working Americans From Cadillac Tax

WASHINGTON, D.C. ― U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) joined U.S. Sens. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) and Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and U.S. Reps. Joe Courtney (D-Conn.) and Frank Guinta (R-N.H.) in sending a letter to President Barack Obama requesting a bipartisan, bicameral meeting to discuss a plan to eliminate the “Cadillac Tax,” a 40 percent excise tax on health insurance plans set to take effect in 2018.
