Ted Romero was 12 seconds off his predicted time in the weekly pace race held out on San Ildefonso Road and Big Rock Loop on North Mesa. 
 
Other top predictors were Tamryn Jones with a 23 second differential, 8-year-old Jayson Jones at 24 seconds off, and Jackie Marr with a 27 second difference.

Pajarito Astronomers Dark Night Sept. 12

The Pajarito Astronomers will be holding a County-Sponsored Dark Night at 7:15 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, at Spirio Soccer Field, Overlook Park. 
 
Weather permitting, the public is invited to come out, wander among the telescopes, and star gaze. 
 
The planets Mercury, Saturn and its rings, Neptune and Uranus may be visible. 
 
There will be a tour of the summer and fall constellations, and there will be telescope views of double stars, star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies.

Dartmouth Study Finds Arctic Mosquitoes Thriving Under Climate Change

HANOVER, N.H.  Warming temperatures are causing Arctic mosquitoes to grow faster and emerge earlier, significantly boosting their population and threatening the caribou they feast on, a Dartmouth College study finds.
 
The study predicts the mosquitoes’ probability of surviving and emerging as adults will increase by more than 50 percent if Arctic temperatures rise 2 °C.
 
The findings are important because changes in the timing and intensity of their emergence affect their role as swarming pests of people

Letter To The Editor: Fire Hazard Mitigated For Veteran

Some dedicated citizens of Los Alamos spent part of their Saturday this past weekend trimming back bushes and trees to mitigate a potential fire hazard identified by the Los Alamos Fire Department. 
 
Legion post 90 and Boy Scout troop 122 had representatives manning clippers and rakes, making quick work of the task. 
 
One truck load of organic waste was hauled to the Eco Station. 
 
A BIG thanks to the Boy Scouts, the American Legion, and even one unnamed county employee, now a veteran can rest easier for another

Little Forest Playschool is holding its annual Fall Fiesta 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.
