Las Cruces Man Pleads Guilty To Federal Conspiracy And Firearms Charges

ALBUQUERQUE — Conrad Vasquez Salazar, 43, of Las Cruces has pleaded guilty to conspiracy and firearms charges.
 
Under the terms of his plea agreement, Salazar will be sentenced to 20 years in federal prison followed by a term of supervised release to be determined by the court.
 
The guilty plea was announced by U.S. Attorney Damon P. Martinez, Special Agent in Charge Carol K.O. Lee of the Albuquerque Division of the FBI, and Las Cruces Police Chief Jaime Montoya.

New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana Receive $2.4 Million In FEMA Preparedness Grants

DENTON, Texas―Fire departments in Arkansas, Louisiana and New Mexico have been awarded more than $2.4 million in preparedness grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
 
The grant in New Mexico totals $169,000 and pays for tuition and educational assistance plus several other programs for the Mayhill Volunteer Fire Department.
 
In Arkansas, the grants total $413,524 and cover firefighting equipment for the Lake Village Fire Department and the Lone Rock Volunteer Fire Department in Norfork.

The Obama Administration Tuesday introduced the first-ever proposed methane pollution standards for new and modified oil and gas facilities, a landmark announcement that will blunt the projected growth of methane and smog-forming pollution produced by the industry in New Mexico.

National Ignition Facility Fires 300th Laser Target Shot Of Fiscal Year 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C. ― Last week, the National Ignition Facility (NIF) fired its 300th laser target shot in fiscal year (FY) 2015, meeting the year’s goal more than six weeks early.
 
In comparison, the facility completed 191 target shots in FY 2014. Located at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), the NIF is the world’s most energetic laser.

Udall, Heinrich Announce $500K For Outdoor Projects

WASHINGTON ― Yesterday, U.S. Sen. Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich announced that the State of New Mexico will receive $500,138 through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) to support outdoor recreation and conservation projects throughout the state.
 
LWCF funds are a highly effective tool for creating and protecting urban and rural parks and open spaces that provide recreation opportunities, enhance communities and create jobs, but the program will expire in September unless Congress takes action.
