“I had no idea that there was a Pilates studio in Los Alamos.” Up until recently, Pilates classes were difficult to find. The same could have been said for Los Alamos, but not anymore. Now, there is a dedicated Pilates studio here – Blue Sky Pilates is at 2101 Trinity Dr., Suite A, across from Ashley Pond.
 
Blue Sky Pilates holds 22 classes per week to accommodate any schedule and skill level. Classes include Mat, Reformer, Pilates for Seniors, Chair, TRX, Stick, and MOTRTM.

AGU: Melting Glaciers Feed Antarctic Food Chain

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Nutrient-rich water from melting Antarctic glaciers nourishes the ocean food chain, creating feeding “hot spots” in large gaps in the sea ice, according to a new study.
 
New research finds that iron stored in the region’s glaciers is being shuttled by melting water to open areas of the ocean, called polynyas, where it stimulates growth of phytoplankton, ocean algae that form the base of the marine food chain.
 
Krill and fish thrive on phytoplankton, and these smaller animals support penguins, seals and whales that feed and breed in the polynyas

MORRIS E. CRANE Sept. 1, 1937 – Aug. 9, 2015
 
On September 1, 1937 somewhere in Texas, Morris E. Crane was born in a boxcar moments after his identical twin brother, Horris.
 
There was no doctor available, so a veterinarian delivered the twins. We think this may have lead to his dislike of Texas and pets.
 
During the WWII years, the family lived in San Diego, CA. Once the war ended, they relocated to Hobbs, NM.

Registration is open until August 18 for the YMCA’s Developmental Youth Soccer Program for ages 4-5 and 6-7.
 
Practices & Games are 2x per week in Los Alamos and White Rock from Aug. 24-Oct. 1. Volunteer Coaches and Team parents needed.
