ALBUQUERQUE ― New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas released the following statement Thursday regarding the Kari Brandenburg investigation:

“Today (Thursday) my office released detailed findings from a four-month-long investigation regarding a public referral from the Albuquerque Police Department alleging that Bernalillo County District Attorney, Kari Brandenburg, engaged in bribery or intimidation of witnesses.

East Park Pool opens for the summer season Saturday, May 23. Guests are invited to try out the facility free Monday, May 25, and the snack bar will be open for lunch.
 
Located at 111 East Road, East Park Pool has two diving boards, a slide and a wading pool. A fence separates the water from the seating area, and there are covered and open decks.
 
Three sessions of swim lessons as well as AquaZumba and water aerobics classes are available.

Donation Site Opens For Worker Injured At TA-53

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union 611 has set up an emergency fundraising site for Julian Trujillo, who was critically injured at Los Alamos National Laboratory May 3 while performing maintenance on an electrical substation at TA-53. 
 
Trujillo remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition and faces “a long and difficult recovery,” as noted on the fundraising site.

NM Makes 3rd Largest Cuts To Higher Education

ALBUQUERQUE — New Mexico is spending $4,383 less per student than it did before 2008, when adjusted for inflation.
 
Only two states—Louisiana and Alabama—have made deeper cuts. And although most states—including New Mexico—have increased funding for higher ed over the last few years, 47 states are still spending less per student on higher education than before the recession.

Los Alamos Teen Center Holds 3D Computer Animation & Game Design Class May 14/May 21

The Los Alamos Teen Center is getting geared up for summer programs and the first one to announce is a 3D Computer Animation and Game Design class being taught by members of the LANL VISBLE Team.
 
The program is open to all teens 9th through 12th grade (including incoming freshmen and graduating seniors). The VISBLE (Virtual Simulation Baseline Experience) Team members are world class computer artists who have developed virtual models of nuclear reactors that allow scientists to explore their inner workings in ways never before possible.
