No Fireworks Allowed on Santa Fe National Forest

SANTA FE NATIONAL FOREST News:

Forest Supervisor Maria Garcia reminds visitors and campers that the use of fireworks is prohibited on the Santa Fe National Forest.

Fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices are prohibited on national forest lands year-round, regardless of weather conditions or holidays.

Forest visitors also are reminded about the importance of recreating safely and responsibly and to keep in mind the following:

The Los Alamos County Recreation Division will present the Los Alamos County Horse Show at 9 a.m., Saturday July 7 at Brewer Arena.

Horse Show registration forms are available at the Aquatic Center or www.losalamosnm.us/rec.

Youth Businesses Stand Ready to Serve

This was a fantastic year for the Youth Business Grant Program (YBGP) of the Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation (LACDC.)

The Youth Business Grant Program is a summer program that encourages young people in the communities of Los Alamos, Jemez Springs, Espanola and Pojoaque to open and run their own business.

The YBGP selected its 2012 recipients from a record 25 applicants.

YBGP awarded 18 grants, up to $400, to help youth ages 13 to 19 start a summer business.

There were 12 recipients from Los Alamos and six from Espanola.

Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos, in consultation with the Los Alamos Fire Department, in consideration of the dangerously dry conditions embracing Northern New Mexico has decided that a fireworks display will not be included in this years 4th of July Celebration Event at Overlook Park.

Starting Monday, traffic will be switched to one lane of traffic on each side of the road. Work will continue in the middle median area. Speed limit within the construction area is 30 mph. The School Board will hold a Work Session on Thursday, June 28, 2012, immediately following the Special School Board Meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Los Alamos High School Speech Theater.
