OBITUARY: Henry J. Kavanaugh Jr. Dec. 12, 1956 – Nov. 4, 2012

Henry John Kavanaugh, Jr. (Hammer), 55, rode away on Nov. 4, 2012. A lifelong resident of Santa Fe, he was the oldest of five sons, born in Los Alamos Dec. 12, 1956, to Isabel and the late Henry J. Kavanaugh, Sr.

Henry attended Santa Fe High School and became a heating, ventilation and air conditioning expert. Known as the “Doc”, he could fix anything. An avid biker, he had two Harleys and took many cross-country road trips. He enjoyed working on his house and in his yard, but valued and loved his family above all else. Take County’s Broadband Market Survey

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County IT Department is doing a Market Survey asking for feedback on the Community Broadband Network project; a “last-mile” fiber network that will provide open and advanced broadband communications access to all Los Alamos County citizens, businesses and institutions.

As part of this survey, the County is interested in conducting market research to assess demand and interest in broadband services, as well as explore preferences regarding methods of financing the CBN project and willingness to pay for the various costs to install and operate the network.  Read More

A report came out this morning that a new $213 million security system at Los Alamos National Laboratory has major problems that will delay the system’s implementation. 

The new security system was undergoing final “commissioning” tests when several serious problems were discovered, according to the report published in the Albuquerque Journal.
