On April 28, The Family YMCA is celebrating Healthy Kids Day with a free community event for kids and families.

More than 1,900 Ys across that country are taking part in the celebration, meant to kick start physical activity and learning throughout the summer.
 
Healthy Kids Day, a national initiative of the Y to improve the health and well-being of kids, is filled with fun, active play and educational activities that will help parents improve their kids’ lifestyles for the long term.

Stephanie Sydoriak will sign the biography of her parents, An Ocean Between: 100% American – 100% Ukrainian, on Thursday, April 26, at 6 p.m. at Otowi Station Bookstore.

The Family YMCA to Offer Red Cross Courses

First Aid, CPR and AED

The Family YMCA is now taking registration for its May 5th and June 2nd First Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification courses.  The courses, taught by American Red Cross certified instructors, are generally scheduled for the first Saturday of each month throughout the year.

County Council Tables Amending LAPS Leases

Councilor Vincent Chiravalle proposed an ordinance amending and restating both the Master Ground Lease Agreement and the Airport Basin Lease Agreement between the County and Los Alamos Public Schools. If approved, the changes would result in some $200,000 annually to the schools. Council voted 6-1 to table the measure until the Trinity Site Project is solidified. Council Unanamously Passes Creative District Plan

Associate Director Jay Johnson of Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Maintenance and Infrastructure Planning spoke in support of the Los Alamos Creative District Plan. Council appoved the plan 6-0 and asked the Creative District Committee to work with the County Administrator and staff and to return to Council with a detailed path forward in 90 days. Los Alamos Site Office Deputy Manager Juan Griego addressed the Los Alamos County Council this evening ragarding the Departments of Energy’s 885 acres of land in Rendija Canyon slated to be conveyed to Los Alamos County within  a year’s time. Local Detectives Collecting Unused Prescription Drugs Saturday

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. April 28 in the Los Alamos Medical Center Parking lot, detectives from the Los Alamos Police Department will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) fourth National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
