The newest exhibit at Village Arts, Just Deserts, is turning up the heat and highlighting the color, warmth, and unexpected life of the desert with 55 artistic gems made by nearly 3 dozen local and regional artists.

Artwork is on display through June 13, 2026. Artists were asked to create work that zoomed in on deserts in all their arid and austere beauty and the resulting artwork shows a surprising breadth of subject matter and media that underlines a deep connection between the artists and their surroundings.

HEDY DUNN March 4, 1943 – May 27, 2026

With great sadness, the Dunn family announces the passing of Hedy (Mannheimer) Dunn, age 83, who peacefully passed away on May 27, 2026, just weeks after a sudden diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. 

Hedy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and member of the community. After a long career as the director of the Los Alamos Historical Museum, Hedy was a devoted and active volunteer with many organizations, including the Pajarito Environmental Education Center, Bandelier National Monument, the Los Alamos Unitarian Church, and the Santa Fe Opera. SANTA FE – New Mexico’s highest court ruled today an investigative report for Albuquerque Public Schools about a former superintendent must be publicly disclosed under state law, although some information in the document potentially may remain confidential.

My Mom finagled my first real job the summer of 1976, joining her at a factory that made Navy lifeboats. On my first day, I was placed at a table in the corner of the factory floor.
