U.S. Releases Updated Plutonium Inventory Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) announced Friday the public release of a report that details the current plutonium inventory of the U.S.

Titled The United States Plutonium Balance, 1944-2009, the document serves as an update to Plutonium: the First 50 Years, which was first released by the Department of Energy (DOE) in 1996.

The report provides the U.S. inventory of plutonium owned by DOE and includes material in the possession of the Department of Defense (DoD).

To address the concern that ranching is an aging industry, New Mexico State University’s Cooperative Extension Service will host a weeklong applied skills beef academy for youth from across the United States at the Valles Caldera National Preserve in northern New Mexico, July 8-13.

Three Local Organizations Partner to Promote Literacy

Community news:

Otowi Station, Los Alamos Rotary Club, and Self-Help, Inc., are partnering to provide free books to 500 local disadvantaged schoolchildren.

The project is part of Self-Help’s “Tools for Schools” program in which the books will be distributed with school supplies for the neediest elementary school children in Los Alamos and surrounding communities, as designated by school counselors.

Members of the community can buy a copy of a book at Otowi Station Bookstore and the Los Alamos Rotary Club will match the purchase with a second book.
