The Los Alamos County Ice Rink welcomed its new Zamboni in January 2024 and it needs a name.
January through mid-May, the Recreation Division held part one of the contest to name the new Zamboni and invited community members and those residing in surrounding areas to submit their ideas of what to name the Zamboni. Part one of the contest received over 200 hundred ideas, all mostly different.

The Democratic Party of Los Alamos County (DPLA) honored longtime resident and party member Amy Storey, third from right, on May 18 at the 10th annual JFK Dinner at Pig+Fig Cafe. Among those gathered for the celebration from left, Michael Redondo, Ryn Herrmann, Laura Crucet, Storey, Beverly Neal Clinton and Denise Derkacs. Storey was instrumental, and, in fact, was one of the leaders of a small group of Democrats who worked to revitalize the county party in 2010. The award dinner memorializes John F. Open Boating At Aquatic Center Tuesday May 28
Open boating will take place 7:10-8:10 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 at the Aquatic Center at 2760 Canyon Road. The doors will open half an hour earlier for boat cleaning before entry.
Boaters must provide their own boats. All watercraft including canoes, kayaks and rafts must be rinsed off on the patio before pool entry.
All participants must have a wristband from the front desk before entering the pool. Life jackets are recommended for participants. Read More

Atomic City Transit Extends Friday Night Bus Service Hours To Summer Concerts At Ashley Pond Park
Ride Atomic City Transit to the Los Alamos Summer Concerts at Ashley Pond Park all summer. The 2024 summer concert bus schedule extends service on three fixed routes to allow concert goers to leave their car at home and avoid parking hassles or a long walk to Ashley Pond Park.

County: Three Athletic Fields To Close For Renovations

Beginning Tuesday, Dara Jones and Hope athletic fields in White Rock and the Bomber athletic field in Los Alamos at North Mesa will be closed until the end of September.
According to the Los Alamos County Parks Division officials, the field closures are required as the renovation project gets underway to improve the playing surfaces of these fields to optimize the performance and safety for athletes. The Los Alamos County Parks Division regrets to inform the public that the opening of the highly anticipated Piñon Splash Pad, initially scheduled for May 24, has been delayed.
This decision comes after discovering the facility’s emergency call box is not operating, a safety feature mandated by the state of New Mexico.

Segment Of Canyon To Close May 24 Through June 3

To ensure the safety of the traveling public and to facilitate the construction of a retaining wall for the Urban Trail Phase II, Los Alamos County Public Works Department announced that a segment of Canyon Road will be closed to through vehicular traffic between the Jewish Center and 300 feet west of 15th Street (see above map).
Work will start at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 24 and continue through Monday, June 3.
