The message: don’t feed the wildlife, may seem simple enough but how to enforce it is the real question.
The Los Alamos Police Department is proposing one solution: a draft ordinance. This ordinance, along with revisions to Chapter 6 of the Los Alamos County Code, which focuses on animal control, were presented for the community’s input during a town hall meeting Monday, Nov. 13.
Police Chief Dino Sgambellone said both draft ordinances will be introduced during the Nov. 28 County Council meeting and a public hearing will be held Read More

Los Alamos County joined the CFPP back in 2018.
“Despite significant efforts by both parties to advance the CFPP, it appears unlikely that the project will have enough subscriptions to continue toward deployment,” Los Alamos County stated in a press release.
In January, it was reported that 28 of the 46 UAMPS Read More

Fellers: Feeding Wild Birds And Animals
I want to share my feelings regarding the county’s possible upcoming restrictions limiting our freedom to feed wild birds and animals on our own property.
I recently read on the Mountain Lion Foundation website:
“On average, a lion will kill a deer about once a week. They also dine on coyotes, raccoons, rodents, elk, feral hogs, and even porcupines.”
Los Alamos has most of the seven animals mentioned! It’s preposterous to think that regulations limiting how we can feed wild birds, who scatter their food on the ground regardless of the feeding station used, will help Read More
