The last of the Water Taste Test challenges have dried up and the results are pouring in. Water we waiting for? Let’s dive right in.
The first event was held March 31 at the Municipal Building. The audience of 50 participants was mostly County Employees and their palettes were quite refined. 48% correctly identified our tap water while 28% were sure that the Evian sample was indeed ours. The remaining 24% felt confident, though incorrectly, that the Smartwater was our tap water.

County Makes Farolito Sand Available To Community
The Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets Division has placed sand at various locations in Los Alamos and White Rock for the community to fill farolito bags for the holiday.
For those new to the area, farolito is the Spanish word for little lantern. Every December across New Mexico plazas, churches, homes and businesses are lit up with farolitos.
These decorative winter holiday lanterns are made with brown paper bags, which are filled partway with sand and a lit tea candle or small votive. Once lit and set, luminarias glow with a unique warmth that is unmatched throughout the year. Read More

Los Alamos County administrative offices will be closed in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24, 2023.

Update: Manhattan Loop Closure To Reopen Noon Monday
The closure on Manhattan Loop Road will remain until noon, Monday, Nov. 27 to allow the concrete to cure properly.
Franco’s Builder, working under contract for Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets, closed the Southeast entrance to Manhattan Loop (off Canyon Road) for concrete work. Work began Monday, Nov. 20.
Local residents can access the Northwest end of Manhattan Loop to avoid construction.

Urban Trail Phase I & II Multi-Use Trail Project Construction
Los Alamos County is under contract with Hasse Contracting Company Inc. to construct the Urban Trail Phase I & II Multi-use Trail Project.
This project will construct an approximately 1-mile long 10ft wide concrete multi-use trail for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Phase I starts at the intersection of Trinity Drive/20th Street and runs north through the Fuller Lodge grounds to the intersection of Ponderosa Street/Spruce Street. Main Gate Park RV Dump Station Closed For Repairs
The Main Gate RV dump station at 2700 East Road will be closed for repairs beginning today, Nov. 21, and reopen Monday, Dec. 11.
The dump line has been clogged due to damage from rocks being thrown into it. Los Alamos County Parks is working repair the line and remove any rocks from the area. A concrete pad is being added to the dump station spigot area to eliminate unwanted items from entering the lines.

Utility crews from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) are making an emergency repair to a water line at Spruce Street and 18th Street.
