County’s Draft Short-term Rental Program Available For Public Review And Comment Through June 18, 2023
On May 17, Los Alamos County Community Development Department (CDD) hosted a public meeting at White Rock Fire Station 3 to present the latest information about its proposed Short-term Rental (STR) Program.
The purpose of the meeting was for CDD staff and contractor Wilson & Company (Wilson) to meet in person with the community, present the draft STR Program and explain how the public input process has thus far been incorporated. Update: All Lanes Now Open On Truck Route.
LAPD News:
The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) reports that all lanes are now open on the Truck Route following the shutdown that occurred this morning.
The cause of the shutdown was a dump truck that overturned at the bottom of the Truck Route (East Jemez) at mile marker # 9.
One person was transported for injuries.
There was also a diesel spill that LANL Hazmat had to clean up.

I’d like to add a little bit to Mark Devolder’s article, which could be subtitled with a paraphrase from his text: “Why you couldn’t pay me enough to ride a bicycle in Los Alamos County.” (link)
Mr. Devolder hits many nails on the head, but I’d like to add a few more. In the spirit of his article, applying makeup with the aid of the rear-view mirror while in motion in morning rush-hour traffic is also double-plus uncool. Volunteers Sought For National Trails Day Woodland Trail Work Project On Saturday June 3
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County Open Space and Trails is working to maintain Woodland Trail and seeking volunteers to assist. The volunteers will work in small groups to fix sections of eroded trail, hauling fill dirt and building drain dips.
Meeting Time:
- 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 3.
Location:
- Woodland Trailhead at Arizona Avenue and Woodland Road.
What To Bring:
- Please wear boots, gloves, long pants, long sleeved shirt and eye protection and bring water and snacks for the day.
What’s Provided:
- Los Alamos County will provide all the tools necessary for the project, including hard hats.

The annual, incentivized summer reading program accommodates library patrons of all ages and schedules of all kinds.
This year, the summer reading program launches Monday June 5 and runs through July 29.
