As local businesses pivot from the pandemic, they are hungry for support, Los Alamos County Economic Administrator Dan Ungerleider told County Council during its work session Tuesday, Oct. 25.
The County and its partners, including the Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation (LACDC) and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) are working to provide them with some support.

COVID-19 Closes WR Senior Center But Lunch Is Served!
The White Rock Senior Center is closed due to a positive COVID-19 case, but lunch is being served today both inside and at the drive-thru outside.
Los Alamos County will take extra cleaning measures to ensure safety.
The senior center hopes to re-open as soon as possible, but that might not happen today, as both centers are short staffed. Once allowed to enter the building, senior center staff will begin to contact trace anyone who was in the building Tuesday.

County Hazard Mitigation Survey Launches Today

Los Alamos County Emergency Management (EM) Division is conducting a study to better understand the preparedness needs and risk perceptions of those who live and work in the County as part of the Hazard Mitigation Plan update process.
To do so, a questionnaire has been created, and EM encourages the entire community to participate. The Hazard Mitigation Survey is open to the public today, Nov. 1-18.

County Utility Bills Delayed For October For Some Residents
Los Alamos utility customers may receive delayed bills for October. An issue with a third-party vendor who prints and mails the monthly bills was discovered by Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) staff this week.
That issue caused bills dated from Oct. 12 forward to be omitted from the vendor’s mailing distribution.
DPU’s Billing and Service Specialists who run the Customer Care Center are printing the omitted bills on site and will mail them Wednesday. Because bills are not typically mailed from Los Alamos, staff is not equipped to include return envelopes. DPU staff Read More

LAMS Deems Threat Rumors To Be Unfounded
Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) reports that earlier today, Los Alamos Middle School (LAMS) staff was made aware of rumors about threats to the school.
The LAMS School Resource Officer, along with LAMS administration, promptly investigated and found no credible threat. Classes continued with no interruptions.
As a reminder, students are encouraged to use the “Say Something” anonymous reporting app to report any unsafe behaviors. The app is installed on all student Chromebooks for easy accessibility.

LAPD Responds To Threat Rumors At Los Alamos Middle School … Hasn’t Verifed Originating Sources
The Los Alamos Middle School staff was made aware of rumors about threats to the school earlier today. They promptly notified the School Resource Officer who investigated the rumors.
At this point LAPD has no first-hand information on the origin of these threats.
“The Los Alamos Police Department has the benefit of having a robust Community Liaison Unit that staffs School Resource Officers at our schools,” Deputy Chief Oliver Morris said. “We take any concern of safety at our schools as a high-priority, and we investigate any claims of violence.”

County: Customer Care To Be Closed 1-2 p.m. Today
COUNTY News:
The lobby-facing windows at the Los Alamos County Customer Care Center in the Municipal Building will be closed for an hour, 1-2 p.m., today while staff attend the annual Los Alamos County Employee Luncheon.
The Customer Care Center is typically open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Staff will respond to voice mail and email messages when they return to the office after the closure. Those customers who prefer to interact with staff in person are asked to do so outside of that 60-minute window.
