DPU Proposes Adjustments To Water Rates

The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is proposing water rate adjustments spanning the next four years.

Two public hearings for adjustments to the existing tiered water rates are planned.

The first public hearing will take place at the Aug. 17 Board of Public Utilities (BPU) meeting on Zoom. If the BPU approves the proposed rate ordinance, a second hearing will occur Sept. 27 at the Los Alamos County Council meeting. The rates must be adopted by the County Council before they can be put into place.

County: COVID-19 Vaccine/Booster Clinic Expanded To Include All Eligible Individuals

COUNTY News:

In conjunction with Los Alamos County, Premier Medical Group (PMG) has expanded the COVID-19 vaccine/booster clinic scheduled for Monday, Aug. 8, to include all eligible individuals, not just children 6 months to 5 years.

PMG will administer Moderna and Pfizer vaccines 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church, 2200 Diamond Dr. in Los Alamos.

Insurance and identification are not required. While walk-ins are accepted, appointments are preferred.

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has granted her request to add Los Alamos and Sandoval counties to New Mexico’s wildfire disaster declaration.

The amendment to the disaster declaration opens the FEMA Public Assistance Program for Los Alamos and Sandoval counties, which provides supplemental grants to state, tribal, territorial, and local governments, as well as certain types of private non-profits, to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies. Los Alamos County tosses out a lot of food. In fact, 20 percent of the local waste stream is made of food.

Work To Affect White Rock Visitor Center Parking Lot Beginning Thursday

COUNTY News:

A portion of the White Rock Visitor Center parking lot will be closed beginning Thursday to prepare the area for the installation of the County’s first Level 3 DC fast charger for electric vehicles.

Preparation began in July and is expected to be completed no later than Friday, Aug. 12.

While the 65 kW charger has not yet been delivered and will be installed at a later date, a Department of Public Utilities (DPU) contractor will be trenching in the parking lot to install electrical conduits and placing a concrete pad in preparation for the charger installation.

The Los Alamos County Council held a special session at 1 p.m. today in Council Chambers to hear an appeal of the Planning and Zoning Commission’s revised Final Order approving Denise Matthews’ request for a Special Use Permit to open Worms and Wildflowers Daycare facility.

Worms and Wildflowers Daycare would provide care, services and supervision for a maximum of 12 children at Matthews’ residence at 113 B La Senda Road in White Rock.

The Community Services Department would like to invite the community to a rescheduled Zoom meeting, 5:30 p.m. Aug. 3 that will focus on the summary findings of the community survey completed in May.

Oversized Modular Home Moving To Sycamore Aug. 3-4

COUNTY News:

JR Theroux Mobile Home Service, Inc. will be transporting two halves of a modular home to Sycamore Street beginning with the first half 1:30-3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3.

The second half will be transported 9-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4.

The frames will be transported back out of Los Alamos later those same days.

The first frame will be transported off the site and out of Los Alamos via Truck Route 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3. The second frame will be transported 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4.
