While the Los Alamos Fire Department’s Fire Marshal lifted all fire restrictions in the county on June 23 thanks to monsoonal weather patterns, the use of fireworks of all kinds presents serious potential ignition of unwanted fires.

Therefore, this July 4, the Fire Marshal’s office has put together a list of prohibited and permissible fireworks in accordance with the Los Alamos County Council-adopted proclamation, which limits certain fireworks.

Atomic City Transit Route 2M (Main Hill) and Route 6 Peak evening service is suspended through the remainder of today due to a staffing shortage.

Please plan to use Route 2T (Truck Route) and fixed Route 6, which will continue to operate its regular schedule 5:55 a.m. to 6:58 p.m.

Atomic City Transit Announces Detour And Bus Stop Closures For Routes 1, 2M, 3 Beginning Tuesday July 5

Atomic City Transit has been notified that a portion of Canyon Road from Rose Street to the Aquatic Center driveway will closed beginning Tuesday, July 5 through the end of construction estimated for  November 2022.

Route 1, 2M and 3 will have a detour from Central Avenue to Oppenheimer. Several bus stop closures are identified on the map above along with a temporary bus stop on Trinity Drive to assist with access.

Expect possible delays due to traffic congestion.

Atomic City Transit regular scheduled bus service will not operate on Monday, July 4, 2022, in observance of the holiday.

Atomic City Transit will be providing free shuttle service for the Los Alamos Fourth of July concert at Overlook Park in White Rock.

Environmental Management-Los Alamos Field Office (EM-LA) Manager Michael Mikolanis provided an update on the middle DP Road clean up project as well as shared news about a brand-new initiative to Los Alamos County Council Tuesday night.

Councilor Sara Scott was absent from the meeting.

SANTA FE — Effective July 1, New Mexico County Insurance Authority  (NMCIA) will provide workers’ compensation coverage to 32 of New Mexico’s 33 counties for the 2022-23 policy year. 

NMCIA welcomes Los Alamos County to the NMCIA self-insurance pool, with their participation in the workers’ compensation coverage program. Los Alamos County has purchased cyber liability coverage from the Pool since July 1, 2020 but has not formerly joined any of the three coverage programs since inception of the Pool.

Emergency Road Closure: 33rd/34th Streets For Repairs

A stretch of 33rd and 34th streets will be closed to through traffic 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Wednesday for emergency water repairs.

The affected portion of the streets is 34th and Villa to 33rd and Walnut Street.

Department of Public Utilities water crews will be repairing a leak and restricting traffic in the neighborhood to only those residents who live on that stretch of road. Read More
