Dedication Of Lizard Art Sculptures At Nature Center Aug. 28

In late 2018, the Art in Public Places Board (APP) received an offer from local artist Richard Swenson to donate two metal sculptures of a large and small lizard; depicting adult and baby, with a recommendation that they be placed on the exterior of the Los Alamos Nature Center building.

The APP board spoke with representatives at the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC), the operators of the Nature Center, and PEEC strongly supported both the donation and the proposed location.

Update On Water Line Breaks In North Mesa

COUNTY News:

As of 7 p.m. today, water has been restored to customers on Alamo Road. 

Crews continue to work to repair the water line on Camino Redondo and estimate water pressure to be restored to these customers by 8:15 p.m. today.

DPU offers the following consideration to customers when water is restored: 

  • Water may at first appear murky due to entrained air. This problem will resolve itself in a day or so.
  • For a day or two there may be a small amount of sediment or rust in the water that has been stirred up from the bottom of the water main.  While aesthetically unpleasant, it does not pose a health risk.

Water Line Breaks: Camino Redondo & Alamo In North Mesa

Water crews with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities are responding to two water line breaks in North Mesa.

 As of late afternoon today, customers on and around Camino Redondo and customers on Alamo have low water pressure.

County Council Action Taken At Meeting Aug. 10

After a lengthy discussion and several motions, Los Alamos County Council ultimately voted to withdraw an ordinance that proposed creating a downtown pedestrian retail overlay zone during its regular meeting Tuesday night.

The motion passed 5-1 with Councilor David Reagor opposed. Councilor Sara Scott was not in attendance.

Other motions were considered before council withdrew the ordinance.

LAPD Reminds Motorists To Be Aware School Starts Today!

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department would like to take a moment to remind motorists that school starts today across the county.

Officers will be out in school zones for traffic enforcement to ensure that all students, parents and staff are safe as the community transitions into another school year.

LAPD also reminds motorists to stop for school buses when their red lights are flashing and students are loading and unloading. This pertains to traffic traveling in both directions.

Crosswalk Installation On North Road At Quemazon Friday

COUNTY News:

Weather permitting, crews will be installing a new crosswalk and signs at the intersection of North Road and Quemazon Friday, Aug. 13.

There will be a flagging operation in place.

Work is scheduled to commence at 8:30 a.m. and end by 3 p.m. Friday.

Pedestrian and vehicle traffic are urged to slow down and obey all traffic control devices within this work zone.
