Councilors To Host Booth At 2021 County Fair Aug. 14

COUNTY News:

Members of the Los Alamos County Council will host a booth at the 2021 County Fair Saturday, Aug. 14 at Ashley Pond Park.

The booth will open after the parade ends at approximately 10:45 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m. County staff will have information about a variety of current projects on display inside the booth for the public to view.

This is an informal setting and members of the public are welcome to stop by and chat with Councilors or ask questions of County staff.

County: Water Outage Planned For Pajarito Cliffs Area

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) and contractor AUI have scheduled a 7-hour water outage for properties surrounding the Pajarito Cliffs area. 

Customers affected by the outage are on both sides of N.M. 502 between Eastgate Drive and Entrada Drive. 

The outage is scheduled to begin 10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3 and continue until 5 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4.

County: Update On Boards & Commissions Meeting Formats

In July, the County Council discussed and then decided to return to in-person meetings in Council Chambers, with the option for members of the public to continue to join meetings via the Zoom online video platform remaining in place.

Zoom had been added during the COVID-19 pandemic last year. The Council asked their various boards, commissions and committees (BCCs) to have a similar discussion at their meetings over the month of July and decide how to proceed – in-person only, Zoom only, or a “hybrid” using both options.

Los Alamos County Council voted 6-1 to continue participating in the Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP) during its Tuesday night meeting.

Councilor Denise Derkacs cast the opposing vote.

She explained that the project seemed to pose too high a risk and she felt the Department of Public Utilities should pursue other options such as nuclear and solar power to achieve its goal of being carbon neutral by 2040.

AVANGRID Agrees To Eliminate Some $1 Billion In Debt As Part Of Application To Merge With PNM

STATE News:

ALBUQUERQUE — As part of its merger application before the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC), AVANGRID, Inc. (NYSE: AGR) has agreed to eliminate 100 percent of the approximately $1 billion debt of PNM’s parent company PNM Resources, Inc (PNMR).

That debt will be assumed by AVANGRID, which has already fully funded the merger with $4 billion in additional equity capital.

The reduction in debt at PNM Resources will mean PNM will have stronger credit ratings, lower interest rates and more access to robust funding, that ultimately will benefit fees ratepayers pay.

Power Outage Planned For Portion Of Western Area

COUNTY News:

Weather permitting, electric linemen with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) have scheduled a 4-hour power outage for properties surrounding Sandia Drive in the Western Area.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Thursday, July 29, the outage will continue until 2 a.m. Friday, July 30.

Customers affected by the outage are on Ridgeway between 47th Street and Diamond Drive, the 45th/41st street loop south of Sandia; 44th, 43rd, 41st streets and homes on the west side of 40th Street that intersect Sandia.

New Mexico Tourism Dept. Takes Clean & Beautiful Grant Program To New Heights In FY22 With Record Participation

NMTD News:

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Tourism Department (NMTD) has awarded $789,800 to a record 53 communities through the New Mexico Clean and Beautiful Grant Program for FY22.

Due to increased interest in the program, NMTD was able to support an additional 16 communities in FY22 compared to FY21. The $789,800 grant program budget for FY22 also represents a $11,100 increase from FY21. NMTD also saw a significant increase of grantee retention in FY22. Nearly 90 percent of FY21 grant recipients applied for the program in FY22, compared to a previous retention rate of 71 percent for FY21.

New Mexico COVID-19 Update July 27: 242 New Cases, Totaling 209,356 With 2 New Deaths And 196,698 Recovered

SANTA FE — New Mexico state health officials announced 242 additional COVID-19 cases today.

Los Alamos County reports zero new cases so the total remains at 548 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

This update includes 2 new deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.
