County Staff Host Public Meeting On Los Alamos Golf Course Site Improvements Project 8 A.M. Friday

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County staff will conduct an informational public meeting to discuss the Golf Course Site Improvements Project.

The meeting is 8 a.m. Friday, July 16 in Council Chambers at the Municipal Building, 1000 Central Ave.

Andy Staples with Staples Design Resource Group will meet with the public via Zoom.

A summary of the improvements include:

  • Driving range expansion, and the renovation/realignment of five holes;
  • Reconstruction of four greens (including one practice green;
  • Renovation/reconstruction of appropriate sand bunkers with liner;

Council Appoints Steven Lynne Los Alamos County Manager

Newly appointed County Manager Steven Lynne

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Council voted 6-1 this evening to appoint Steven Lynne County manager. Councilor Sean Williams voted against the measure. 

Lynne brings 25 years of experience to his new position. He has been serving as acting county manager since Harry Burgess retired in May.

Lynne also has served as deputy manager, director of the Administrative Services Department, chief financial officer and budget officer. Read More

Los Alamos County Utilities Board And Council To Consider Continued Participation In Carbon Free Power Project 

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos Board of Public Utilities (BPU) and the Los Alamos County Council will decide July 21 and July 27, respectively, whether to continue in the Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP).

The CFPP is a proposed nuclear power generating facility to be built at the Idaho National Laboratory using first-of-a kind small modular reactor technology developed by NuScale Power. 

The project is going back to the  BPU and Council this month for consideration, since the project participants voted this past June to reduce the number of small modular reactors in the proposed CFPP from 12 to six. Read More

County: NM 4 Walking Trail To Close For Repairs

COUNTY News:

GME Emulsion, LLC will begin trail rehabilitation on the N.M. 4 Walking Trail from Sherwood Boulevard to Monte Rey Drive.

This section of the trail will be closed during these repairs, which include mill and overlay, crack sealing, and fog seal.

No street closure will occur during the construction.

Work commences Thursday, July 15 and is scheduled for three weeks. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, weather permitting.

Traffic signs and devices will shift bicycle and pedestrian traffic around work zones.

Los Alamos County and the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Environmental Service (DOE EM) jointly released late this afternoon the following statement:

From DOE EM:

“On July 8, the DOE contractor, N3B, discovered an intact 500-milliliter amber glass bottle containing liquid during pothole excavation at the Middle DP Road Site. As part of required procedures, N3B contacted the Emergency Operations Support Center (EOSC).
