Dekker/Perich/Sabatini And Community Development Department Release First Module Of Chapter 16 Development Code: Public Comment Open Until Aug. 5

Dekker/Perich/Sabatini (DPS) and the Los Alamos County Community Development Department (CDD) have released the first module of the Chapter 16 Development Code update focusing on use regulations for public review.
Module 1 contains updates to the zoning districts, the permissive use table (AKA Use Index Table), use-specific regulations and use related definitions. They discussed the changes at a public meeting on July 22.

County Marks 3-Year Anniversary Of Yard Trimming Program
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County began its curbside yard trimming program in July 2018 to help the community reduce the amount of yard trimming material sent to the landfill.
By reducing the amount of yard trimming materials sent to the landfill, the county reduces the amount of greenhouse gasses emitted into the atmosphere by avoiding hauling and disposal.
The yard trimming cart is a helpful tool for residents to dispose of pine needles, grass clippings, branches and leaves in an environmentally friendly way.

The Los Alamos County Resiliency, Energy and Sustainability (LARES) Task Force is seeking Letters of Interest to appoint one community member to the Task Force.
The Task Force is an advisory body to the County Council. Its purpose is to recommend ways for the County, as a whole, including government, businesses and residents, to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions and advance other sustainable practices in the face of climate change, as stated in its charter, adopted by County Council Jan. 26, 2021.

SANTA FE — New Mexico state health officials announced 632 additional COVID-19 cases between Saturday and today.
Los Alamos County reports one new case bringing the total to 547 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

The Los Alamos County Council will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Council Chambers inside the Municipal Building at 1000 Central Ave.
Items on the agenda include a public hearing on an ordinance to zone a parcel of land identified as Tract RM, Eastern Area 3, as Professional-Office (P-O).
According to agenda documents, this parcel of land is a vacant 0.28-acre lot at 3292 Trinity Dr., that will solely be used as a parking lot for two adjacent properties: the apartment complex at 3301 Canyon Road and the Clendenen Business Building at 3250 Trinity Dr.

Canyon Rim Walking Trail Closed For Repairs
COUNTY News:
GME Emulsion, LLC will begin trail rehabilitation on Canyon Rim Walking Trail from Knecht Street to the trail termini at the parking lot under construction with the underpass.
The first section of trail repair is between Knecht Street and DP Road and the second section is from DP Road to the trail termini. These sections of the trail will be closed during the repairs, which include mill and overlay, crack sealing and fog seal.
No street closures will occur during the construction.

Aquatic Center Closed For Remodeling Aug. 7 – Sept. 12

The Aquatic Center will be closed beginning Saturday, Aug. 7 and is expected to remain closed through Sunday, Sept. 12, and re-opening Monday Sep. 13.
During that time, crews will be working on the front desk area, entry way, new flooring, and replacement of the main pool sand filtration tanks and fire sprinkler heads.
