ACT: Bus Stop #113 At Central & 4th To Be Removed

COUNTY News:

Atomic City Transit is advising customers that Bus Stop #113 on the north side of Central Avenue and 4th Street will be removed. 

The proximity of this bus stop to the new roundabout is close and could cause traffic delays.

The next Bus Stop is #114 on Central Avenue and 6th Street and is available for use.

County Council To Consider Proposed $237 Million Budget

Despite all the challenges Los Alamos County has and is facing due to the pandemic, it is entering Fiscal Year 2022 in strong financial shape.

“Unlike many other communities we have fared well during the pandemic,” County Manager Harry Burgess said. “This is largely due to budget increases at the laboratory.”

He explained that Los Alamos National Laboratory’s expenditures grew to $3 billion for the present fiscal year and is anticipated to grow again to $3.7 billion for the following year.

County Welcomes New Planning Manager Bryce Ternet

When the Los Alamos County Planning Manager position opened, Bryce Ternet seized the chance to live and work in Los Alamos.

“This just seemed like a perfect opportunity,” Ternet said.

He started as the Community Development Department’s (CDD) Planning Manager March 8. Ternet took over the position from Ryan Foster.

Ternet said he was introduced to Los Alamos after he and his wife traveled to the area while on vacation.

DPU Customers To Pay Higher Price For Natural Gas

COUNTY News:

The cost of natural gas rose significantly in the middle of February. As a result, Los Alamos customers can expect to pay more for gas consumed beginning this month, according to officials with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU).

The charge of $0.55 per therm in March was raised to $1.22 per therm April 8. This charge could continue for the next four to six months.

New Mexico COVID-19 Update: 187 New Cases, Total 194,164 With 9 Deaths And 175,460 Patients Recovered

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials announced Tuesday 187 new COVID-19 cases.

Los Alamos County reported zero new cases so the total remains 506 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

Tuesdays update includes 9 new deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

County Social Services Office Joins Self Help Inc. To Assist Applicants With Rental And Utility Assistance Grants

Staff in the Los Alamos County Social Services Division announced today that they are joining the local Self-Help, Inc. office in offering free assistance to any individuals in Los Alamos County wishing to apply for the State of New Mexico’s federal aid program for rental and utility assistance.

Los Alamos County Emergency Manager Releases Event Code To General Public For Mass Vaccination Clinic April 25 

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County’s emergency manager has released the event code to “unlock” registration for anyone wishing to attend the April 25 large-scale vaccination clinic set to occur in partnership with Nambe Drugs.

The code is AFGKMXW and the clinic will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Griffith Gymnasium on the Los Alamos High School campus.

Los Alamos Airport Terminal Building Closed April 13-16

The Los Alamos County Airport Terminal Building will be closed to the public and pilots April 13-16 as crews work on flooring abatement.

Containment will be set up and cannot be breached until the work is completed and subsequently cleared.

The Terminal Building also will be receiving a new roof beginning April 13. Roof Care anticipates this work will occur for approximately two weeks. The roof work should not impact access to the building.

Eco Station Reuse Area Closes For 2 Weeks Starting Today

COUNTY News:

The Reuse Area at the Eco Station in White Rock will be closed starting today, April 12 until Friday, April 23.

During the closure, Los Alamos County Environmental Services, PEEC and the Zero Waste Team will be assembling backyard compost kits to be distributed to residents at a later date.
