One of the concerns of the scientists who built the “Gadget” nuclear device that was detonated at Trinity Site in 1945, was that the bomb might not actually go off. Council Tentatively Approves Public Works Budget

Los Alamos County Council tentatively approved 7-0 the $41,758,175 budget for the Public Works Department during its Tuesday night budget hearing. The proposed budget included add-on items, which are $2.5 million for a road improvement project on 33rd/34th streets and Arkansas Street, $1,750,000 for bear carts for residences and bear-proof dumpsters in the County and $33,000 for a car for administrative use. Los Alamos County Council tentatively approved 7-0 the proposed FY-2022 $11,199,815 budget for the Community Development Department (CDD) during its Monday night budget hearing. Council Tentatively Approves Assessor’s Office Budget

County Council tentatively approved 7-0 the FY2022 budget for the County Assessor’s Office during its Monday night budget hearing. The County Assessor’s office proposed FY2022 budget is $691,921, which is 3 percent higher than the FY2021 budget. County Assessor Ken Milder, bottom, reported the reasons for the increase is primarily attributed to salaries, employee benefits and interfund services, which includes vehicle maintenance and general insurance. New Mexico COVID-19 Update: 161 New Cases, 195,615 In Total, With 3 New Deaths And 176,905 Recovered

SANTA FE – New Mexico Department of Health officials announced today 161 new COVID-19 cases.

Los Alamos County reported zero new cases so the total remains 511 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

Today’s update includes 3 new deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

The New Mexico Department of Health reports the most recent cases:

  • 60 new cases in Bernalillo County
  • 3 new cases in Chaves County

LAVA Community Support Walk At Ashley Pond April 24

COMMUNITY News:

Ashley Pond Park, including the stage area, will be used for the Los Alamos Victim Assistant (LAVA) Community Support Walk 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 24.

The community is invited to attend this event.  

To follow social-distancing requirements, directional signage will be placed to allow one-way foot traffic around  the sidewalks in the park, and masks are required. Sign-in will occur at the stage area.
