Los Alamos County Enters Level 1 Fire Restrictions

Los Alamos Fire Department’s Fire Marshal Wendy Servey announced today that she is enacting Level 1 Fire Restrictions for Los Alamos County, effective Friday, Oct. 23.
Servey said the decision was made in partnership with LAFD’s Wildland Division today after reviewing the potential threat of wildfire, especially in light of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic emergency.

Electricity provided to Los Alamos County could be generated through cutting-edge technology.
The probability of this happening significantly increased recently after the Department of Energy approved a $1.35 billion cost share award to the Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP).
The CFPP project involves a 720-megawatt NuScale power plant that would be at the Idaho National Laboratory site. The power plant would utilize 12 small modular nuclear reactors.

Center Lane Drop On Trinity At 15th Thursday And Friday
COUNTY News:
Parker Construction, under contract with Natural Grocers and in cooperation with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities, will drop the center, left turn lane on Trinity Drive at 15th Street.
Work to cap a water line will continue after unforeseen circumstances Tuesday delayed this effort.
The lane will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. today, Oct. 22 and is anticipated to conclude by 6 p.m. Friday, Oct 23. No interruption of utility services is planned.

Calvary News:
Calvary Los Alamos has hosted a Pumpkin Patch each October for more than 10 years but do to the second wave of COVID-19 have decided that it is not feasible to host it this year.
Calvary had thought of doing a “drive-thru” event but felt that even had too high of a risk.
The congregation is very saddened by this turn of events and hopes that all of the precious families that have come yearly will understand this decision.

PAC 8 ‘Meet The Farmers’ Videos: Montoya Family Orchard
PAC 8 received a MainStreet grant to create three videos about local farmers who sell their produce at Los Alamos Farmers Market. ‘I feel it is important for the public to see how the farmers grow their produce and where it comes from. It’s also nice to meet and get to know the farmers you buy food from,’ PAC 8 Executive Director Jean Gindreau said. Traffic Alert: Center Lane Drop Trinity At 15th Tuesday
COUNTY News:

Final Census Response Count In Los Alamos County 83.8 Percent Compared To 58.7 Statewide In New Mexico

The final self-response count for the U.S. Census in Los Alamos County is 83.8 percent.
This is in comparison to the self-response count for the U.S. Census for all of New Mexico, which is 58.7 percent.
