SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials have announced this afternoon 819 additional positive tests for COVID-19.
Los Alamos County remains at 37 cases that have tested positive for COVID-19.

October is Breast Cancer awareness month in Los Alamos and across the United States.
In Los Alamos, County Council Chair Sara Scott issued a proclamation Oct. 1 declaring October Breast Cancer Awareness month. The proclamation recognizes the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on breast cancer research, diverting resources and halting thousands of university research studies.
Additionally, the proclamation acknowledges that minorities are heavily impacted by cancer due to poverty, lack of insurance, and lack of access to diagnostic services.

‘Library Conversations’ Virtual Gatherings Oct.15 – Dec. 17

“Library Conversations” is a continuing series of virtual gatherings for adults offered by the Los Alamos County Library System.
The latest series began at 7 p.m. today and runs through Dec. 17, with a break at Thanksgiving. The conversations vary from horror to novel writing to music to poetry.

Road construction projects are moving ahead at full speed throughout Los Alamos County.
During the regular County Council meeting Oct. 6, County Engineer Eric Martinez provided an update on current projects as well as future roadwork plans.
Martinez highlighted numerous projects that are underway throughout the County.

County: Solicitation Opens For Two Parcels On Trinity Drive

Officials in the Community Development Department at Los Alamos County announced this morning that a solicitation has opened for the purchase of two vacant, County-owned parcels on Trinity Drive.
“These parcels were purchased by the County many years ago and the County is hoping to provide an opportunity for interested parties to develop the parcels in support of our established goals for the community,” Community Development Director Paul Andrus said. “We are interested in selling 3661 and 3689 Trinity Dr., land located just east of the medical center.”

Walkup Aquatic Center Swim Lessons Resume Oct. 19

COUNTY News:
The Aquatic Center will begin offering modified semi-private swimming lessons, for levels 2 & 3, limited to two students per class and where the parent is in the water with their child and the instructor teaches from the deck.
Twenty-five minute lessons will be offered Monday/Wednesday & Tuesday/Thursday for $70 (non-refundable).
- Level 2 Seahorse: Little to no water experience is required. This class introduces children to the water with fun water activities with parent. Class emphasizes safety, floats, glides, rolls, submersion and motor skills.

LAPS, Council Holding Virtual Joint Session To Set Next Steps For North Mesa Housing Thursday Oct. 29

The North Mesa Housing Study will move to the next step at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, when Los Alamos County Councilors meet on Zoom with the Los Alamos Public School Board in a joint session.
The County’s consultant, Dekker Perrich Sabatini (DPS), will join the CDD project team to present the North Mesa Housing Study, a document first drafted pre-COVID pandemic and after several public workshops or open house meetings to discuss draft concepts for building homes on land just east of Los Alamos Middle School on North Mesa.

Aquatic Center Therapy Pool Re-Opens Monday Oct. 19
COUNTY News:
The Aquatic Center has announced that the Therapy Pool will re-open at 7 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19 for warm water exercise lane reservations.
All individual swimmers are welcome, and same household family members may workout together in a lane, however it is limited to three individuals.
To reserve a lane, call 505.662.8170, one day ahead between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., and call the Friday before for Monday reservations.
