Firefighters have contained a large fire that erupted this morning at the Friedman Recycling Center at 5021 Edith NE Boulevard in Albuquerque.
Los Alamos County sends its recycling materials to the Friedman Recycling Center.

Affordable housing for seniors is one step closer to coming to fruition. The Los Alamos County Planning and Zoning Commission approved 4-2 the site plan for the Bluffs apartment complex during its regular meeting Sept. 23.
The commissioners agreed to an amendment, which requests an additional six or more parking spaces for the apartment complex be included in the site plan.

Car Erupts Into Flames In Central Park Square
Firefighters respond this morning to the scene of a parked car that suddenly burst into flames in Central Park Square in downtown Los Alamos. It appears that no one sustained injuries. Deputy Fire Chief Steve Dawald told the Los Alamos Daily Post that a rat or squirrel nest built under the hood likely sparked the blaze. PAC 8 Receives MainStreet Grant To Create Videos Featuring Local Farmers And How They Grow Their Produce

PAC 8 Community Media Center has received a $1,000 MainStreet grant to create three videos featuring local farmers who sell their produce at the Los Alamos Farmers Market.
“I feel it is important for the public to see how the farmers grow their produce and where it comes from,” PAC 8 Executive Director Jean Gindreau said. It’s also nice to meet and get to know the farmers you buy food from.”
Gindreau added that she hopes these videos will encourage more people to go to the market.

Los Alamos Police Will Take Enforcement Action; File Charges Against Individuals Vandalizing Political Signs
LAPD News:
The Los Alamos Police Department has seen an increase in stolen or vandalized political signs around the county the last few weeks.
Officers will take enforcement action and charges may be filed if the investigation leads to the identity of the offenders.

Los Alamos County employee Shirley Huber reached a milestone no other County employee has accomplished.
Huber, an Office Specialist in the Information Management Division, has served the County for 55 years.
She bid her career, reluctantly, goodbye this week. Her departure caused a few tears in her colleagues and the County Council presented Huber with a special proclamation during its meeting Tuesday night.
