SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials have announced this afternoon 280 additional positive tests for COVID-19.

Los Alamos County remains at 14 cases that have tested positive for COVID-19.

Today’s update announces 4 additional deaths reported in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

The New Mexico Department of Health reported today the most recent cases:

Robinson: Code Enforcement Path Forward

It may come as no surprise that enforcement of the nuisance code continues to be a controversial topic in our community. 

When I was appointed to the Community Development Advisory Board (CDAB) in January, I realized something needed to be done to move forward with the entrenchment that has stalled the board and county. 

With that, I decided to make it a goal to get a path forward for this difficult topic. On July 20, 2020, I plan to present that path forward to the CDAB.

Los Alamos Public Library System Presents Afrofuturism

LAPLS News:

The Los Alamos Public Library System invites the community to an upcoming cycle of Library Conversations on speculative fiction.

Participate on Zoom for a series of short story discussions around the theme of Afrofuturism in science fiction.

The discussion will cover some current Afrofuturism, Afro-Retro-Futurism, a classic Afrofuturist story, and a winner of the Nommo Award presented by the African Speculative Fiction Society.

A boring contractor will be operating off the side of Diamond drive at the Golf Course next week. No traffic impediments are expected, but drivers will see signage and cones along the shoulders alerting them to construction in the area.

At our July 7, 2020 Council Work Session we had a presentation from Dekker, Perich, Sabatini on the Downtown Master Plans and Development Code Update. I wanted to highlight a couple of items for our residents.

Water Line Breaks On 33rd Street Repaired; Water Restored

COUNTY News:

Water crews with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities restored water to all customers on 33rd through 39th and Walnut streets by 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. 

Department officials offer the following information to customers:

  • Water at first may appear murky due to entrained air. This problem will resolve itself in a day or so.
  • For a day or two there may be a small amount of sediment or rust in the water that was stirred up from the bottom of the water main. While aesthetically unpleasant, it does not pose a health risk.
  • Flushing home plumbing lines with cold water for a couple of minutes

Traffic Alert: Update On Water Line Breaks At 33rd Street

COUNTY News:

Water crews with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities estimate that water services will be fully restored to customers on 33 through 39 and Walnut streets by 9 p.m. today.

Crews are responding to two water line breaks on 33 Street – one approximately 100 feet north of Villa and the other approximately 100 feet south of Villa in front of Aspen Elementary School.   

Villa at 34 Street is closed to through traffic. Motorists traveling to Walnut, 32nd Street, lower Villa and the southern part of 33 Street are being detoured north onto 34 Street.

Expect traffic delays.

Utility Work On Grand Canyon In White Rock July 15-16

COUNTY News:

Crews with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities are replacing a section of natural gas line on Grand Canyon between La Vista Drive and Canada Way in White Rock.

Work is scheduled 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. today, July 15 and Thursday, July 16. Traffic delays are expected.

The Grand Canyon eastbound lane will be dropped at the work zone on the north side of the road. A flagging operation will be set up to accommodate east and westbound traffic.

No interruption of gas service is expected. During the replacement project, however, crews will need to purge the line of air and excess gas.
