Traffic Alert: Construction Mishap Closes Meadow Lane

LAPD News:
The Los Alamos Police Department has just advised the Los Alamos Daily Post that a construction crew hit a live wire this afternoon on Meadow Lane in White Rock.
The Utility Department and police are on the scene.
Meadow Lane is closed at about Hacienda near St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in both directions.
Police are asking motorists to use Rover Boulevard while the utility crew repairs the broken wire on Meadow Lane.

COUNTY News:BPU Recommending Water & Sewer Rate Increases
DPU Deputy Manager Robert WesterveltIt was a tough pill to swallow but the Board of Public Utilities agreed to recommend that Los Alamos County Council approve two ordinances that would give multi-year rate increases to water and sewer rates.
The ordinances were passed during the BPU meeting Oct. 16.
The ordinance for raising sewer rates was passed unanimously but the water rate ordinance passed 4-1. Board member Stephen McLin cast the opposing vote.

Los Alamos Department Of Public Utilities Customers Can Save Up To $3,500 On New Electric Vehicle

The American Public Power Association (APPA) has teamed up with Nissan to offer rebates to public power communities on the all-electric 2019 Nissan LEAF.
Los Alamos is a public power community through its County-owned Department of Public Utilities (DPU). Customers and employees of the DPU are eligible for a $3,500 rebate when purchasing the 2019 LEAF standard edition and $2,500 when purchasing the ePlus edition. The offer ends Jan. 2, 2020.
In addition to the public power rebate, customers can also get up to $7,500 in federal electric vehicle (EV) tax credits.

The Los Alamos Police Department is conducting its biannual DEA Drug Take Back Day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in the north parking lot of the police station off Central Avenue.
This drug diversion program is part of a national initiativeby of the DEA. The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means to dispose of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

Traffic & Streets Division crews have completed the installation of the Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) on Diamond Drive at the Golf Course Crosswalk.
The RRFBs are push button activated amber LEDs that supplement the warning signs at the crosswalk. They use an irregular flash pattern that is similar to emergency flashers on police vehicles. This flash pattern has shown to elicit a greater response from drivers than traditional flashers. Read More
