The Los Alamos Animal Shelter is closed today due to an outbreak of ringworm in the cats staying at the shelter.
It is standard procedure to conduct a thorough deep cleaning of the cat room, quarantine room and entire Animal Shelter to contain exposure and ensure a safe environment.
It is anticipated that the animal shelter will be closed only today and reopen Tuesday. However, if more cleaning or time is required, the animal shelter may remain closed Tuesday as well. Read More

Scenes From Annual Firefighter For A Day Event
The second annual ‘Firefighter For A Day’ event was held Saturday at the Los Alamos Fire Department training facility at Station #2 on DP Road. The event provides participants with the opportunity to experience the perils that firefighters face on their job. Each participant is checked for vitals and issued protective gear and assigned to teams. BPU Discusses Multi-Year Water, Sewer Rate Increases
Department of Public Utilities Deputy Manager Jack Richardson To generate revenue needed for current operations and to build cash reserves for future infrastructure needs, the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is recommending multi-year, stepped rate increases for water and sewer.
