Council OKs Ordinance For Land Transfer To LAPS

LAPS News:
The Los Alamos County Council unanimously voted Tuesday, Aug. 27 to approve an ordinance for the transfer of 2.02 acres of land to the Los Alamos Public Schools.
This change will improve:
- Student and staff safety;
- Coordination with UNM-LA and the Los Alamos community; and
- Options for construction of a new Field House at Sullivan Field.
The new ordinance was published Aug. 29. After that, Los Alamos County will prepare the deed, which will be presented to the Los Alamos School Board for review and acceptance on Oct. 15.

‘Little Shops’ Vendor Meeting Sept. 12
COUNTY News:
Results from the “Little Shops” community survey will be announced at a special meeting hosted by the Discoveries Action Team (DAT) at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12 in Council Chambers at the Municipal Building, 1000 Central Ave.
DAT volunteers would like to invite potential vendors to the meeting to see if they would like to participate in a pop-up event to test the sale of their products, and set a date.

Star Paving announced at 2:45 p.m. today that the Trinity Drive closure at DP Road that has been in place the last two weeks to install infrastructure has ended.
The eastbound lane has been returned to the former detour we had before the closure; motorists can take Trinity Drive to 4th Street, then after a full stop, turn right onto N.M. 502 to leave Los Alamos.

Traffic Alert: Diamond Drive Reduced To One Lane Wednesday – Allow Additional Travel Time!
Traffic Alert:
Wednesday, Aug. 28, Diamond Drive will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Alabama Avenue and the First Baptist Church south of 39th Street.
This will work will continue through the end of week to repair settling issues that had previously occurred on the southbound lanes.
All lanes are expected to be reopened Friday by the end of the day.
Motorists are advised to allow additional travel time.
Pedestrian detours will be in place and bike lanes will be closed on Diamond Drive within the work zones. Bicyclists and motorists are asked to share the road.

David Hampton is a candidate for Position 3 on the UNM-Los Alamos Advisory Board. He filed this afternoon with the Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office. Since his retirement from Los Alamos National Laboratory 2.5 years ago, Hampton has been seeking opportunities to become more involved with the community, he said. He currently serves on the board of the Los Alamos Food Co+op. On the UNM-LA Advisory Board, Hampton would seek to continue and build upon collaborations between the college and Los Alamos National Laboratory and the business community to fill the need for skilled workers. Melanie Colgan filed as a candidate for School Board to serve the Barranca and North Mesa communities (District 4) this afternoon at the Los Alamos Municipal Building. Colgan has five chidren in the Los Alamos schools and has been an active volunteer with the school district. Now she would like to expand her role to include making policy as a member of the School Board, Colgan said.
