Utility Work On Arizona 8 a.m. To 4 p.m. Tuesday
COUNTY News:
Parker Construction, under contract with Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities, will excavate on the south side of Arizona Avenue just east of 45th Street to locate a water leak.
This investigatory utility work will occur Tue. Feb. 19 only. Traffic will be restricted to one lane at the construction zone beginning at 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., with two-way traffic accommodated by a flagging operation. Motorists can expect some delays.

Utilities Board To Consider AMI Rule Feb. 20
COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) seeks approval of proposed General Rule GR-16 on Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) from the Board of Public Utilities (BPU).
The rule includes a provision under GR-16.03 to allow customers to opt out of the AMI project without penalty. AMI is a method of communication technology to read meters remotely without having to physically access meters on customers’ properties.

Today, Chief of Police Dino Sgambellone released calls for service and crime statistics for the 12 months of 2018, which were compiled by the Records Section of the Los Alamos Police Department.
Offenses reported as crime statistics are determined by the FBI Uniform Crime Report Program and are classified as crimes against persons (violent crime) and crimes against property. The offenses of murder (homicide), manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault make up the violent crime category. Simple assault is not included in UCR. Read More

The Board of Public Utilities (BPU) will hold a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20 in Council Chambers at 1000 Central Ave., to consider a proposed ordinance to increase water rates by 6.25 percent.
If approved, the proposed ordinance will be introduced to the Los Alamos County Council to be scheduled for a second public hearing in March or April. Council will consider adoption of the ordinance at that time.

Los Alamos County’s Geographical Informational System (GIS) staff manuever a drone Friday at 36th Street and Trinity Drive. On The Job In Los Alamos: Transferring Film At PAC 8
On the job in Los Alamos is volunteer Bob Dryja transferring movies on film to digital media Thursday afternoon at the PAC 8 studio at 20th Street and Central Avenue. Dryja has volunteered at PAC 8 for about three years and said he mainly digitizes old films. Most of the content he receives is ‘classic family home movies’ although he occasionally sees someone’s vacation footage. Los Alamos Police officers responded late this morning in White Rock to reports of an intoxicated and despondent man who may have had access to firearms.
Police Cmdr. Preston Ballew told the Los Alamos Daily Post that police have located the man and he has been transported to the Los Alamos Medical Center where he is undergoing evaluation.
Both Chamisa and Pinon elementary schools were placed on lockdown as a safety precaution during the incident, Cmdr. Ballew said. Read More
