County: Pueblo Canyon Rim Trail Partially Closed Due To Icy, Unsafe Conditions

Because of extreme ice and unsafe trail conditions, Pueblo Canyon Rim Trail is closed three quarters of a mile from the intersection shown in the above photo.

This section of trail is extremely icy and there are no alternatives to bypass this hazardous section of trail.

Snow Removal Efforts Underway In White Rock

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County began mobilizing snow removal crews this afternoon in the White Rock area.

The crews are using a moto-grader and backhoe and concentrating on snow removal from curb to curb. The snow is being cleared from windrows and loaded into dump trucks where applicable.

Residents are asked to use caution around the machinery and to move parked vehicles from the street.

Los Alamos County thanks the White Rock residents for their patience and is continuing to work hard to keep County roads safe.

A new snow blower machine is busy this morning vacuumimg up snow on San Ildefonso Road and  blowing it into dump trucks that hauled it off to the Los Alamos County Fair Grounds. County: Discoveries Action Team Meets Jan. 17

The next monthly meeting of the Discoveries Action Team is Thursday, Jan. 17 in the Pajarito Room of Fuller Lodge.

Snow Removal Efforts Underway In Tsikumu Village

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County will be mobilizing snow removal crews beginning today to the Tsikumu Village area and the work will continue until all streets in the village are passable.

The efforts will include snow plowing and removal by truck to an offsite location. Atomic City Transit services will remain open; however, services will work around the snow removal efforts.

Residents are asked to use caution around the operation and to remove vehicles from the roadway and park vehicles in driveways.

County: New Snow Removal Operation On North Mesa Begins This Evening … Avoid Parking On Streets

Los Alamos County, in conjunction with one of its private contractors, will be unveiling a new snow blower machine that is capable of quickly and efficiently loading several large dump trucks used to haul snow away.

This new machine will be able to load trucks faster than the traditional heavy equipment loader and increase efficiency in the snow removal process.

County: Road Construction Alert

Guzman Construction Solutions, the contractor for the new homes being built for Mirador on Parcel A-19 just north of N.M. 4 near the Visitor Center in White Rock, will begin work this afternoon for utility tie-ins for the subdivision.

The work requires the closure of the west entrance leading into the White Rock Visitor Center overflow parking lot.

Los Alamos County Environmental Services Division is offering free curbside collection of Christmas trees.
 
Place your tree curbside between Jan. 7 and Jan. 25 and it will be collected on your regular trash day. Maintain 4 feet distance between roll cart and tree. Once collected, trees will be recycled into mulch and compost.
 
As a friendly reminder, artificial trees will not be collected. Remove all decorations from your tree. If you want to dispose of your tree and it can fit in your trash cart, with the lid shut, you may do that as well.
