The smell of black exhaust smoke pouring from the tailpipes of Atomic City Transit buses or the sight of transit drivers filling up bus gas tanks will one day be a thing of the past.

Los Alamos Fire Battalion Chief Joseph Candelaria is retiring today – his birthday – after 17.5 years of service to the community. He remembers the day he started at LAFD. Woman Crashes Into Fence At Sullivan Field

A woman driving a small white car around 8:45 p.m., Tuesday reportedly encountered brake failure and crashed into a fence at Sullivan Field on Diamond Drive. Los Alamos Fire Department EMTs treated her elderly male passenger at the scene for apparent minor injuries and transported him to Los Alamos Medical Center as a precaution. Scouts, Other Organizations Invited To Be Color Guard For Los Alamos County Council Meetings

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Council invites Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, along with other local organizations, to serve as Color Guard at any Council Regular Meeting or Work Session.

Presentation of the flags by a Color Guard can occur at the beginning of any Council meeting on a Tuesday at 6 p.m. in either Council Chambers or White Rock Fire Station 3. The presentation is followed by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

County: Advanced Metering Coming To Los Alamos

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) will seek approval from the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to award a contract for the purchase and installation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) for all of Los Alamos County.

AMI is a method of using communication technology to read meters remotely without having to physically access the meters on customers’ properties.

DPU will take the contract to the BPU 5:30 p.m., Sept. 19 at in Council Chambers at 1000 Central Ave. The contract will subsequently go to the Los Alamos County Council for approval.

Asphalt/Paving Work On Diamond Near 35th Thursday

COUNTY News:

Paul Parker Construction, under the supervision of the Los Alamos County Public Works Department/Traffic and Streets Division, will repave a section of road that was recently excavated to repair utility lines on the north side of Diamond Drive near 35 Street.

This work will occur 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept. 14.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions in the construction work zone. Motorists may experience some delays.

Utility Tree Trimming Underway In White Rock

COUNTY News:

Allied Tree Services, under contract with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities, will be conducting tree trimming commencing this week.

Allied Tree Services will be trimming trees from around power lines in the area of Bandolina, Delicado and Futura Drives in White Rock. Crews will remain in the area for approximately two weeks.

The next monthly meeting of the Discoveries Action Team is Thursday, Sept. 20 in the Pajarito Cliffs Site (PCS) Building 1 Conference Room.

Participants will meet 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and continue discussing ideas suggested by the Place-Making and Place-Marketing subgroups. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch.
