Scam Alert:

The Los Alamos County Social Services Division is reporting that they have received information that phone calls are being made to local residents using a Caller ID that displays as being the main phone number for the Social Services Office (662-8068).

The caller is offering a deal to lower the resident’s tax rates. Social Services staff are not involved in any solicitation of this kind.

Udall, Heinrich, Luján Announce $1.48 Million For Los Alamos Electric Buses

CONGRESSIONAL News:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich and U.S. Representative Ben Ray Luján announced that the Department of Transportation has awarded Los Alamos Atomic City Transit $1.485 million through the Low or No Emission Grant Program to purchase new zero-emission battery electric buses to replace the City’s existing diesel fleet.

Atomic City Transit offers transit service in both Los Alamos and White Rock, ADA complementary paratransit, and a shuttle service to Bandelier National Monument during peak visitor season.

Update: NM 502 & NM 4 Road Closures Saturday!

Westbound N.M. 502 (Main Hill Road) leading to Los Alamos will be closed to all traffic Saturday, Aug. 25 (see map in purple). The hairpin ramp connecting N.M. 4 to westbound N.M. 502 will also be closed (see map in blue).

These traffic control measures are to allow completion of mill and inlay work on an approximately one mile stretch of N.M. 502. Signage will be posted to detour traffic around the closures via East Jemez Road (truck route).

The State of New Mexico finds that Los Alamos National Laboratory’s newly designated management and operating contactor Triad National Security, LLC will pay Gross Receipts Tax. County And Community Honor Pierotti’s Clowns

A crowd gathered Tuesday in the Los Alamos County Council Chambers to honor, congratulate and reminisce about the Pierotti’s Clowns. The community turned out for the opening of the exhibit about the five-man softball team, which is featured in the lobby of the Municipal Building. The amateur softball team started in 1953 and played for 25 years. All the money they raised from games went to charities. The Clowns played 202 games and won 177. Big Move Underway At Mesa Public Library

In order to accommodate the renovation project at Mesa Public Library, the Library will be closed Monday, Aug. 20 and reopen Tuesday, Aug. 21.

Citizens graded Los Alamos County government in a variety of areas during a recent independent survey conducted by Southwest Planning and Marketing.

Managing partner Chris Cordova said 401 residents were randomly selected to participate in the survey, which began May 9. The survey was conducted by telephone with follow-up email and intercept surveys over the span of two weeks.

A scale of one to four was used to evaluate the County government and respondents gave an average rating of 3.3 for overall quality of life in Los Alamos. Read More
