Visiting the Mud Pulp Fiber exhibit in Mesa Public Library’s Upstairs Art Gallery is like stepping into a memoir of artist Suzanne Vilmain’s life. The exhibit opens 2-4 p.m., Saturday with a Surrealist Picnic, after which this richly layered installation will be on display until June 30. The Surrealist Picnic features the art of artist Katharine Kagel of Café Pasqual fame.

BPU Will Decide County’s Participation In Coal Plant Post 2022

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities will be recommending to its Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to let the county’s contract for a three percent ownership share in the San Juan Generating Station expire in 2022. 

Consideration of this recommendation will occur at the Wednesday, May 16, BPU meeting scheduled at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Municipal Building, 1000 Central Ave. The BPU decision will then be forwarded to the County Council for concurrence.

The Los Alamos Police and Fire Departments are taking over the nature center 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15.

Los Alamos resident and announced candidate for sheriff Greg White has filed an emergency leave for amicus curiae brief request in First Judicial District Court in the ongoing litigation between Los Alamos County Council and Sheriff Marco Lucero.

Amicus briefs are usually filed by a person or group who is not a party to an action with the intent of influencing a court’s decision. The current action is slated for a hearing at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Los Alamos Justice Center, which is open to the public.

A 54-page brief has been filed by Los Alamos County attorneys in the ongoing litigation in First Judicial District Court between Sheriff Marco Lucero and the County involving the Sheriff’s duties.

The County’s brief filed by County Attorney Alvin Leaphart and Assistant County Attorneys Kevin Powers and Kathryn Thwaits states that the fundamental problem with Lucero’s position is his failure to accept that the State Constitution “says what it means and means what it says” regarding the charter making authority of the County. Los Alamos Police Invite Community To Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service 10 a.m. Tuesday May 15

LAPD News:

The community is invted to attend the annual the Law Enforcement Memorial Service hosted by the Los Alamos Police Department Tuesday, May 15 to honor the New Mexico Law Enforcement Officers who lost their lives in the line of duty this past year.

The service begins at 10 a.m. on the north side of the Justice Center in the parking lot facing Central Avenue and lasts about 30 minutes.

At this time and until 1 p.m., everyone is invited to bring their vehicles so LAPD family and staff can apply a thin blue line to the back windshield in support of law enforcement.
