Chandler: My Personal Tribute To Teachers
By CHRISTINE CHANDLER
Council Vice Chair
House Dist. 43 Candidate
Campaigning across House District 43, discussing the educational needs of our children, has prompted me to reflect back on my public school experience.
My father emigrated from Poland after the war, and met my mother when he settled in Western Massachusetts. My mother was born to Polish immigrants and at the time there was a vibrant Polish community in the area. Neither went to college and both worked in blue collar jobs their whole lives, carefully saving money for a down payment to buy a house and raising me Read More
Sheehey: Fiscally Responsible Progressive
By Pete Sheehey
County Councilor
House Dist. 43 Candidate
There is a myth that progressive government policies, while they may be the moral choice for the common good, are fiscally irresponsible.
I do my job as a county councilor, and am campaigning for state representative, as a fiscally responsible progressive. Actions can be taken that will save lives, preserve the environment, and save us money in the long run. Here are some examples.
I convinced Los Alamos County to join the Rio Grande Water Fund, an innovative coalition of public and private groups that is working to increase the rate of Read More

COMMUNITY News:
With a couple of weeks to go, Senior Appreciation Night is still in need of eight volunteers to lead fun activities during the evening of graduation Saturday, June 2.
Senior Appreciation Night came about as a result of an upsurge of underage drinking and driving during the late 1970s and early 1980s when parties in the mountains, where police had no jurisdiction, were prevalent and led to several car wrecks and deaths.
A group of community members and organizations, led by then acting Chief of Police Gary Bequette, hoped to create an alternative celebration and they hosted a Senior Read More
Izraelevitz: Strategic Priorities For Los Alamos
By DAVID IZRAELEVITZAs I walk door-to-door on my campaign, I am often asked what my priorities for Los Alamos are. Like many other governmental issues, my priorities necessarily revolve around economics.
Los Alamos is and always will be a feeder community for LANL. It is absolutely true that if LANL were to close tomorrow, the town would also close, because structurally, and for the foreseeable future, there is no reason for our town to be here unless it is a bedroom community for the Lab.
The existential question is not whether LANL will Read More
